About Freya Mavor
Freya Mavor is a Scottish actress born on August 13, 1993. She is best known for her roles as Mini McGuinness in the E4 teen drama Skins and Daria Greenock in the HBO finance drama series Industry. Mavor has a diverse background, having spent part of her childhood in France and being fluent in French. She made her professional debut in 2011 and has since built a successful career in both film and television, with notable roles in various productions.
Early Life
Although Freya Mavor was raised in Inverleith, Edinburgh, she was born in Glasgow. Her family has a long history in the arts, and her father, James Mavor, is a playwright. Mavor's love of performing began at a young age, and she followed her passion by participating in National Youth Theatre shows and school plays.
Career
Mavor's career took off once she was cast as Mini McGuinness in Skins, a role that brought her praise from critics and nominations for awards. Since then, she has made numerous appearances in TV series and movies, displaying her versatility in a range of genres and languages. Mavor's acting ranges from romantic comedies to period dramas, showcasing her versatility and talent.
On television, Mavor portrayed Princess Elizabeth of York in the 2013 period drama The White Queen for BBC One. She joined Will Merrick in stage production Boys at the Arcola Theatre in London. In 2014, she appeared in Channel 4 historical miniseries New Worlds and had a supporting role in the mystery drama The Sense of an Ending by Ritesh Batra. Her TV credits include The ABC Murders (2018) (BBC), Twice Upon a Time (2019) (Arte/Netflix).
Mavor has expressed a love of theatre and made her own stage debut in London for the play Good Canary, directed by John Malkovich, where she played a drug addict battling with mental illness. She was named Screen International Star of Tomorrow 2013 and also won the Fashion Icon of the Year Award at the 2011 Scottish Fashion Awards.
Personal Life
Mavor is quite tall, with a slim build, strawberry blonde hair, freckles, and fluency in French. Her name, Freyja, is derived from Old Norse and means "lady." She has a Danish grandmother. She has always been fascinated by words and how humor and cultural context can dramatically transform a person. Her narrative was deeply questioned by The Shining, which left her deeply scarred: "I wanted to do what Jack Nicholson was doing, minus killing my entire family."
