Conflict Perspective

The conflict perspective derives its strength and support from the work of Karl Marx. In contrast to functionalists; conflict sociologists see the social world in a continual struggle. In conflict theories, it assumes that societies are in a constant state of change in which conflict is a permanent feature. Concepts of it are:

• Conflict does not necessarily mean violence.
• It includes tension, hostility, severe competition, and disagreement overviews.
• Conflict is regarded as a constant process and an inevitable part of social life.

Descriptions of Karl Marx:

Karl Marx viewed the struggle between social classes as inevitable because of the exploitation of workers under capitalism. He introduced hierarchy in an organization (institution)

Descriptions of Conflict Perspective on brief:

1. According to different sociologists conflict not merely a class phenomenon but as a part of everyday life in all societies. Thus, in studying any culture, organization, or social group, sociologists want to know "who benefits, who suffers, and who dominates at the expense of others."
2. The sociologist is connected with conflicts between women and men, parents and children, cities and villages, rich and the poor, upper caste and lower caste, and so on.
3. The conflict perspective is viewed as more "radical" and "activist". This is because of its emphasis on social change and the redistribution of resources.
4. Conflict theory encouraged sociologists to view society through the eye of those people who rarely influence decision-making. For example; the Black in America and South Africa, the untouchable in Nepal and India, minorities in Pakistan, and so on.
5. Feminist scholars have also argued for a gender-balanced study of society in which women's experiences and contributions are visible as these of men.

Limitations of Conflict Perspective:

• Overemphasis on conflict
• Less emphasis on consensus, harmony, and solidarity
• One-sided, focusing so narrowly on issues of competition and changes.
